Stay calm and throw clay! This class is for students with little to no ceramic experience, or those who would like to advance their skills on the potter’s wheel. In this 8-week class, hands-on instruction will include wedging, centering, throwing basic forms, trimming and glazing. As time permits, intermediate techniques such as handling, lidded and altered forms, and surface decoration will also be covered. Students will leave class with their very own handmade functional art pieces!
The $40 materials fee is included to cover the first 25lbs of clay, use of tools and glazes, as well as firing. You will also have an opportunity to come to designated open studio times to practice your technique. Open studio time is not an instructional time, but a time to work on methods taught earlier in the week and to meet with other students to commune and discuss your work ( open studio times will be discussed during the first class and should be used to practice ). Additional clay, glaze and firings are available for purchase.
